| Instructor Bio: | Richard Tharp – Maker, Quilter, and Educator Richard Tharp’s expertise lies in being a true maker. His creative journey began with cutting quilt pieces and piecing quilt tops, then grew into mastering garment construction and working on production lines in a sewing factory. Today, Richard runs a successful longarm quilting business from his shop in north central Illinois and brings more than 25 years of experience in the sewing industry. His first Bernina was the Aurora 440 QE, and over the years he has owned the Q20, 790, 880, Kaffe 475 QE, L890, and Yaya Han B79. Richard has a special passion for overlockers and coverstitch machines, incorporating them into both his quiltmaking and his popular Kimono workshops. He also shares his expertise through his YouTube channel, “Richard Tharp Quilts,” which features more than 300 instructional videos and a LIVE tutorial every Friday at 6 p.m. CST (when he’s not traveling). A proud highlight of Richard’s quilting career was when his quilt “The Sisters” became a finalist in the Hoffman Challenge. Dedicated to his “Memaw” and aunts, the quilt celebrates his family’s generations of quilters and continues to be a favorite story and visual on his business trips. Richard’s greatest joy, however, comes from teaching. He loves seeing that “ah-ha” moment when everything clicks for a student. His philosophy—“Learn, Inspire, Create”—reflects his passion for sharing knowledge and sparking creativity. Richard has taught workshops across the U.S. and Canada, always eager to connect, inspire, and empower his students to create something truly their own. |
